The Basics of Skin Cleansing and Acne Removal

The American Academy of Dermatology believes that acne is caused by several contributing facts many of which exclude the common myths of the causes of acne such as poor hygiene, eating fried food, and eating chocolate. For the unclean skin part of the debate, we all know that you can't simply wash acne away. While poor hygiene may not help the situation it is definitely not one of the causes of acne. The main cause of acne is an over working sebaceous gland (these g4lands are attached to the hair follicles in the skin tissues), which produces excess sebum. Sebum is the oily substance that is often found in the skin. The overproduction of sebum can be a result of excessive hormones released into the body. The skin can only tolerate so much sebum effectively; an overabundance causes problems that the skin doesn't know how to manage. The extraneous sebum attracts bacteria, which will result in red and infected skin. Acne can be treated, and is treated quite effectively in most people. There are strains of acne or cases that are more severe than others. These strains are resistant to traditional treatments and may require a great deal of consideration and exploration in order to determine your best treatment options. Cleaning your skin doesn't have as much effect on acne as you might think. This is not to say it shouldn't be done, only that it will not be the instant acne cure that some people believe it to be. Washing your face (or any other body part that is widely affected by acne) is good for cleaning the excess sebum from the skin and avoiding possible bacterial infections as well as removing dead skin cells and debris that may only serve to clog your pores. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most commonly used skin cleansers in the fight against mild acne. The antiseptic nature of benzoyl peroxide makes it an excellent weapon against the bacteria that can form with acne causing infections and further inflammation. If you have combination skin with oily skin in some areas and dry skin in others, you will want to avoid the dry areas, as benzoyl peroxide may tend to cause excessive dryness and flaking. If you have had excessive problems with acne and infection, then it is quite likely that you bear some scarring from your acne experience. Your dermatologist may recommend laser treatment to removed your scars or as a treatment option for your continued acne problems. Lasers have been known to be quite effective against both acne and the scars it leaves behind. Also, as with any kind of procedure you need to carefully consider whether or not you believe this will be the most effective course of action for you to take. There are special considerations that need to be considered by those with lighter or darker skin tones and your dermatologist should inform you of all the risks involved. The technology exists to effectively treat acne. If your acne is a problem for you, then you should at least consider the value of utilizing the technology that is available.
