Do only teens get acne?

Should I just leave my acne alone?

What causes acne?

In short, acne occurs from changes that take place as young people mature from childhood to adolescence. The hormones that cause physical maturation also cause the oil glands in the skin to produce more sebum (oil). These oil glands sometimes become blocked and infected. The end result is acne. Can stress cause acne?

I have acne, is it ok to sunbathe?

I've never had acne in my teens. Why am I now getting acne now as an adult?

What's the best treatment for acne?

To be sure, everyone's acne must be treated individually. There are basically three categories of treatmenst you can pursue. They are: 1) homeopathic acne treatments (aka natural treatments), 2) over-the-counter treatments such as generic acne lotions OR products like proactiv solution, and 3) prescription medication treatments. Is it ok to pop my pimples?

No. Acne pimples and/or lesions should not be picked, popped or squeezed. Doing so actually can cause additional swelling and possible scarring.

What kind of cosmetics and cleansers are best for acne patients?

Look for "noncomedogenic" cosmetics and toiletries. These products have been formulated so that they will not cause acne. Also, look for non-oil based products.

I'm currently using acne medication. How long before I see results?

This depends on the product being used. Normally, it usually takes several weeks or months. Most skin doctors recommend using the acne medication daily for about 4 to 8 weeks for effective results.

What can be done about acne scarring?

The best thing you can do is actually prevent it from happening by getting rid of the acne. However, there are various methods you can use to improve the scarring caused by acne. Acne scar removal treatment are always specific to the individual. You can opt for chemical peels, dermabrasion or even laser treatments.
