Bacne - Acne on Your Back

Acne Help & Treatment Center > Bacne

Acne can make an appearance in many places on the human body; one of those places is the back. This form of acne has been named "bacne". Acne affects people of all ages, races, and genders. However, bacne is much more common in men than in women.

Bacne may develop as a result of irritation of the sweat glands. Sweat is a form of body waste and it contains dirt, toxins, and oils that aggravate the condition of the acne that is already on the back while creating conditions that are ripe for the formation of further acne. Extremely persistent bacne is often hereditary in nature and is much harder to rid the body of than acne that appears on the face. Treatments for bacne are much more intensive than other forms of acne treatment. For mild or occasional outbreaks, mild cleaners that contain benzoyl peroxide can be used.

Like all acne, bacne is caused by excessive production of sebum from the sebaceous glands. This oily substance is then released through the skins pores creating an environment that is very favorable for acne outbreaks to flourish. The sebum gets trapped in the pore, which clogs openings. This means that dead cells can't be released, as they should be because of the accumulated oil.

Bacne is located on the back and in some cases buttocks. Severe cases have much larger and quite painful lesions. Much like acne, the instigator for bacne remains unknown. There are several external irritants such as backpacks and tight clothing that are contributed as possible instigators but nothing definitive.

It is also believed that bacne could be the result of a hormonal imbalance or body wastes and toxins that need to be released. While there are several instigators for facial acne not all of these will bring about an outbreak of bacne. Food seems to have no effect on bacne at all. Neither does excessive perspiration.

Bacne is neither contagious nor is it linked to a hereditary condition. There are simply too many people affected by acne to accurately study the affects that genetics plays in this condition definitively.

Stress is also not considered an indicator for bacne. While it has an effect on blackheads and whiteheads there is no indication that stress has any sort of effect on bacne at all. In its simplest form, bacne can be treated with over the counter medications and homeopathic treatments. More severe forms of bacne will require a doctor's attention.
